Day 2: Entry to your Happy Home!

What can you add to the entrance to your home that could make you and your family feel Happy? The entrance is your first opportunity to create this feeling. How do you do that???

Here are a few ideas to achieve a Happy Entrance!

This is a side entrance to a eco-friendly home we helped design. The owner has an active dog that she sometimes wants to keep out of the kitchen. That’s why we added the dutch door. We used reclaimed brick on the floor and added barn board paneling wainscoting for some texture on the walls. (Its really ceramic tile that looks like wood. That way when her dog shakes off after a romp in the rain it’s easy to wipe the walls!)

This entry is in a new home that we staged. The small hutch is strategically placed to collect your keys or mail. The shelves are a great place to display decorative objects or family photos! The floor in here is Vermont grey slate.

We have brought the blue skies in with the color on the walls. The indoor/outdoor runner is attractive and plays off the green painted hutch in the kitchen beyond. We added a side board to have a place to drop your keys or mail. And always a mirror to check your ‘do before you head out the door.

In this grand entry we’ve created scale by wrapping the room with paneled wainscoting. The round table with its tall accessories (that can change with the seasons) also helps to create scale. The extended entrance has a side board with lamps for low lighting at night. The stairs have a custom bound runner. It’s wide enough to be safe for going up and down the stairs, but also shows off the painted risers and stained treads.

Here is the front door adjacent to the navy settee in the picture above. We’ve painted the door Benjamin Moore Van Duesen Blue. It picks up the blue in the settee, the drapes and the rug. We’ve added texture to the walls with grasscloth by Phillip Jeffries.

This home has a comfy settee by the entrance. We’ve added pinch pleat drapes in a more contemporary print to soften the space.

This was a side entrance to a farmhouse we remodeled. The reclaimed brick on the floor is attractive and easy to keep clean. There is a rustic bench we upcycled from the barn. And there is the mirror to check yourself out on the way out the door. In the corner is a small copper pot (also upcycled from the barn) that can hold wet umbrellas on yucky days!
